Overview

As the Technical Project Lead, I orchestrated the end-to-end rebuild of Britannia’s corporate website, a digital platform for India’s leading FMCG giant with 100+ iconic brands like Good Day & Marie Gold.

A Truly Magical Experience!

The platform serves as the global face of Britannia, showcasing its legacy, product portfolio, and sustainability initiatives to millions of consumers, investors, and partners. Leading a cross-functional team of 8+, I delivered a visually stunning, high-performance website that aligned with Britannia’s global brand identity.

My Role & Contribution

I was responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of the project—from initial concept to final deployment. Collaborating with both the technical and branding teams, I was responsible for making sure the website is both performant and visually appealing!

  1. End-to-End Agile Project Leadership: I coordinated cross-functional teams, including three software engineers, one QA specialist, one UX designer, and one UI designer. I also collaborated closely with the production and branding team, which delivered world-class images showcasing a wide range of Britannia’s products.

  2. Architecture & Tech Strategy:

    • Headless CMS Strategy: Championed Strapi as the CMS to empower Britannia’s marketing team with no-code content updates (blogs, investor reports, CSR initiatives) while decoupling frontend/backend.

    • Performance-Centric Stack:

      • Next.js: Implemented server-side rendering (SSR), static site generation (SSG) & ISR(Incremental Static Regeneration) for SEO-optimized pages.

      • AWS: Containerized the Node.js/Strapi backend for auto-scaling during traffic spikes (e.g., product launches).

      • NGINX: Configured reverse proxy and caching techniques.

      • Accessibility Compliance: Enforced WCAG 2.1 standards (e.g., alt tags for product images, keyboard navigation).

  3. Stakeholder Engagement: Working directly with top-tier stakeholders, including CMOs and Marketing Leads at Britannia, I ensured that the project’s vision aligned perfectly with brand strategies and market positioning. Through regular discovery sessions, I gathered critical insights and translated them into actionable technical specifications and design enhancements.

We used a modern, customised tech stack to allow for performant website even with the large number of high quality image and video assets.

  1. Next.js

  2. Tailwind CSS

  3. Strapi CMS (Headless)

  4. AWS

    • ECS

    • S3

    • RDS

  5. Nginx

  6. Figma

  7. Cypress

Outcomes

The website was a major redesign activity for a fortune 200 company to attract customers and investors alike!

  • Increase in Organic Traffic: SEO optimizations drove higher SERP rankings for keywords like “Britannia products” and “corporate social responsibility.”

  • Faster Page Loads: Achieved Lighthouse scores of 95+ on performance and accessibility, even with a highly visual site containing HD videos and images.

  • Zero Downtime Launches: Successfully deployed a major campaign ("Britannia 5050 4th Umpire”) with zero outages.

  • User Empowerment: Reduced dependency on developers—80% of content updates are now handled by Britannia’s marketing team via Strapi.

  • Attract investors: One of the major reasons for the redesign and redevelopment of the website for Britannia.

Reflection

This project exemplified the power of marrying technical rigor with creative vision.

By acting as both a technical leader and a bridge to stakeholders, I delivered a website that not only met Britannia’s high standards but also set a benchmark for corporate digital experiences in the FMCG sector. The success hinged on relentless focus on performance, scalability, and—above all—understanding the brand’s ethos: “Eat Healthy, Think Better.”
